July 2020 Fasting and Prayers — Day 3

Are You Ready?

Scriptures For Meditation — Joshua 3:1-17; John 16:13; Psalm 32:8

“When you see the right thing, you will hear the right word.”

This was what the Lord impressed on my mind as I prepared to write today’s blog.

They are many things that are happening in the world and in many people’s lives right now that we haven’t ever seen before; too many things that we may not really know what we are meant to focus on. Maybe you can identify with this as you read this today.

On the first day of our fasting, God spoke to us about Moses and his burning bush experience — how his focus on the right thing was the precursor to him receiving a revelation of God’s plans concerning his life and the nation of Israel.

Perhaps God is waiting for you to also see right, so that you can hear Him right in this season?

Looking Unto Jesus

In our scripture for meditation today, we see the children of Israel at the threshold of a very important intersection in their history; they were about to exit the wilderness and enter into a new phase of their journey into the promised land, as they crossed the Jordan River.

God this time, helped them with their focus, by telling them what they were to look at — they were to keep their eyes on the Ark of the Covenant, and on the priests on whose shoulders it was being carried.

The Ark of the Covenant was a representation of the Shekinah Glory, the very presence of God in the midst of the Israelites.

“That you may know the way by which you must go”, shows that as the ark of the covenant led the way, Israel would accomplish this impossible task of passing through the Jordan River, as they set their eyes upon God’s presence, and followed only after His leading.

When we are looking out for Divine guidance to navigate this season, it is critical that there be nothing in the way to obscure the object or to distort our vision of His leading.

Will You FollowThe Way Maker?

As we stand on the threshold of the new things that God is about to do in our lives, our nation and ministry at this time, we also must heed the call to take our eyes off the things that surround and distract us, and keep them firmly focused on Jesus as He leads the way!

“Sanctify Yourselves…”

The people were also enjoined to “Sanctify themselves”.

This means they were to separate themselves from common things to focus in on the LORD, and to see that the LORD will do wonders among them.

Hitherto, the Israelites had been led on their way by the pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night; but now, things were to change —the Ark was now to be the Way Maker to lead them into the promised land.

Friends, I really believe in my heart that God is doing new things in His Church at this time that we have to correctly respond to. We need to keep our eyes on Jesus as He navigates us through this way that we’ve never been through before. We can’t afford to take our eyes off Him!

Are you ready and prepared to follow the Ark into Jordan…?

Pastor Wale Ola

Let’s begin by sanctifying ourselves as we get ready to follow His Holy presence into the new place that He’s leading us into.

Let’s ask Him to show us what we need to address in our lives; what we need to rid ourselves of to make ourselves ready as brides prepared for the groom.

Let’s pray for the priests (the leaders that God has appointed) that they will stand strong to lead under the unction of God’s presence and power.

Let’s pray for them, that they will hear correctly and with clarity, the instructions that God is speaking to the Church at this time, so that the people they are leading can follow the leading of the Lord into their promised inheritance.

Let’s pray specifically for the leadership of GLA, that as we wait on the Lord for direction on the way to go in this season especially post-Covid, that we will open our ears, our eyes and our hearts to how God is leading His Church in this season that is upon us.

Pray for yourself, that God will give you the grace, wisdom and the boldness to embrace and step into the new things that He may be requiring of you.

Behind The Scenes

Scriptures For Meditation — Ex 3:6-10; Ex 2:23-25

Our first scripture text that we are meditating on today, is a continuation of the text that we read yesterday.

Following Moses’ encounter and dialogue with God on Mount Horeb, God declared His plans concerning the deliverance of the children of Israel from the bondage of slavery in Egypt.

A God Who Sees

Have you ever gone through a rough patch or experienced a tough situation where you have wondered if God saw your pain or even remembered you at all?

Can you imagine how the Israelites might have felt after being held in captivity for close to 430 years; can you imagine just how many generations have known nothing else about their heritage but the servitude of slavery?

And on a smaller scale, in the case of Moses at this time, he had been on his own personal wilderness journey of 40 years. He probably thought of himself as the man that time forgot!

When Moses woke up that day, as far as he knew, it was going to be just like any other day he had experienced over the last 40 years that he had been in the wilderness; Same mountain, same route, same routine, a normal day in the life of a simple shepherd; or so he thought!

He sure didn’t bargain for God to interrupt his “normal” in a spectacular way unannounced, and completely change the course of his life.

Friend, even when it looks like nothing is happening; when it seems like God had forgotten you; when you think that He’s not got you on His mind, He can show up on the scene and declare His awesome majesty in your life, in that situation.

God is at work on your behalf, behind the scene!

As we sing in that song:

“Right now, God is, working it out, working it out, God is working it out, right now”!

A God Who Knows…

Hear what God Said to Moses:

Exo 3:7 And the LORD said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

Exo 3:8 So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites.

Exo 3:9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

Exo 3:10 Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.”

• God saw them in their affliction

• God heard their cry

• He knew their sorrows

Earlier on in Exodus 2:23-25, the bible also tells us how their plight was not unknown to God:

• They cried out because of their bondage

• God Heard

• God Remembered

• God Saw

• God Responded by sending a deliverer to them, to bring them out of Egypt.

• Let’s start by reading Psalm 77:1-20

• Let’s cry out to God in faith today; let’s pray that He will open a book of remembrance for us

• Let’s petition Him to look and note the affliction, the oppression, the injustice that we are suffering in our lives or that we have suffered and come to our defence and rescue us.

• Pray for God to send deliverance so our destinies can be liberated from the shackles of the enemy.

• Let’s pray for divine intervention in areas of our lives where we need God to show up.

• Let’s pray for more of God’s presence in our lives; that we will have divine encounters with God as we wait on Him in Jesus’s Name.

Fire On The Mountain

Scripture For Meditation — Ex 3:1-5

One consistent word that the Lord has been speaking repeatedly to the Church over this period that we are in, is that He is doing a “New Thing”!

As He said in Isa 43:19 —

Behold, I will do a new thing, Now it shall spring forth; Shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness And rivers in the desert. (NKJV)

As I meditated on this scripture, the word “Behold” jumped out at me.

What did this word “behold” mean to the Hebrew in the context of that message?

The word represents the idea of looking toward something of interest — The underlying meaning is the idea of a continuation; it meant “a looking toward something continually”.

So, God prefaced the announcement of what He was about to do with the word behold. In other words, He was saying to them to pay attention.

Pay Attention

He was saying to them as He is saying to us today, that we need to watch closely, to pay attention to the things unfolding before us, so we don’t miss out on the new things that He is about to do; the great things that He is already doing!

In our scripture for meditation today, we see that very concept playing out in the life of Moses in his encounter with God in his “burning bush experience”:

Exo 3:2 And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed.

God had kickstarted a process to do something to intervene in the affairs of the Israelites and deliver them from their captivity in Egypt, and indeed in Moses’ life; and He announced this by grabbing Moses’ attention in an unusual occurrence.

Exo 3:3 Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.”

When God saw that Moses responded to what He was manifesting before him, God revealed His plans to him.

Exo 3:4 — So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”

Take A Closer Look

Child of God, could God have been trying to get your attention through your own “burning bush experience” to usher you into your “new things” and you are not seeing the signs?

If you look carefully at the verses of scripture that we just read; it is interesting to note that Moses did not just see what was unfolding before Him; but crucially, he also saw correctly!

What Are You Looking At?

Is it not strange that it wasn’t the sight of the angel in the midst of the burning bush that caught his attention, but what he turned aside to look at, what caught his attention, was the fact that the bush was burning with fire but was not consumed!

Exo 3:3 Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.”

Are you looking at what is unfolding before you at work, in your business, in your ministry, all around you in this season and taking notice of what God is showing you? Are you looking at what God really wants you to focus on?

Some of us may be looking and indeed seeing, but we may inadvertently be focusing on the wrong thing!

Moses didn’t focus on the angel (as awesome as that sight probably was to him) — it was the “less spectacular” sight of the bush burning without being consumed that really caught his attention.

Child of God, I pray that God will open your eyes to see what you are really meant to see, so that you can hear your “marching orders”; the word that will bring you into your breakthrough in this new season.

Pastor Wale Ola

Pray against every distraction that the enemy may have been using to draw your attention away from what God is really doing in your life and situation.

Pray, Lord open my eyes to see what I am meant to see in what You are doing.

Speak Your word to me that I may know what to do in this season.

Pray against the spirit of confusion, that you will have clarity in your mind and spirit, to see, to hear and to do as God will instruct in Jesus’s Name.
